Oslofjord Case study

The Oslofjord Case study will be used to apply the integrated assessment framework (IAF), measuring chemical concentrations and biological effects in mussels and fish from selected locations in the inner and outer Oslofjord to determine the impacts of chemicals of emerging concern (CECs) on the local marine environment. The IAF will measure bioaccumulation of prioritised CECs, selected using the CONTRASTs chemical prioritisation scheme, as well as a battery of biological effects in mussels and fish that will cover multiple mechanisms of toxicity that chemicals are known to cause.
In addition, forensic ecotoxicology and biodiversity assessments will be performed on sediment samples collected from both contaminated and reference locations in the Oslofjord. To determine CEC impacts on sediment biodiversity and to investigate which compounds may be responsible for observed toxic effects.
